Senior Minister
Hillsboro Christian Church 
 
Position Overview 

 
The Senior-Minister’s primary function is to bring hearers of the word into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Then, along with the elders, equip new (and established) believers to a lifestyle of disciple making. He shall be supportive of all ministry leaders and staff as he works to provide vision, direction, and team leadership skills for the advancement of the ministries of HCC. (II Timothy 2:15) 
 
The following shall be the qualifications and responsibilities of the Senior Minister. 
 
Qualifications 
 
1. Education/Experience 
  • Prior experience with a bachelor's degree preferred in biblical studies 
  • Be an excellent preacher, teacher and communicator and demonstrate this ability  
    before hire. This will be evidenced by how you exegete scripture, connect with the congregation and encourage life-changing application 
  • Seeking God for wisdom and showing passion and zeal for the word of God
 
2. Mission Understanding  
Must be able to understand and communicate the discipleship role within the local  
church with passion for local missions and beyond
 
3. Leadership skills evidenced by 
  •   Fostering a Team atmosphere.  Eager to work with the elders with understanding and   appreciation of their role and obligation to the church  
  •   Strong visionary giftedness.  One that regularly seeks God’s direction and has the discernment to   accurately assess how to decide and communicate letting love rule in every situation  
  •   An ability to promptly deal with conflict in a biblical way (directly, openly, honestly and graciously) and protect the church from false teaching (Eph.4:11-14) 
  •   A strong willingness to serve. You will be a servant leader who works alongside those whom you   lead with humility, sincerity, and accountability 
  •   The applicant shall comply with the goals and standards set by the elders as presented in the   Employment Agreement
4. Visiting      
  •  Those who visit our assemblies (visitors, non-members)
  •   Members: friendship visits / bible study / prayer / concerns / etc
  •   Visit sick at home and hospital  
  •   Actively seek out people for bible studies  
  •   Build stronger relationships with members and nonmembers through  
  •    Recreational activities
  •     Compassionately extend God’s comfort to all 
 
5. Wisdom and Judgement 
  •      Devoted to prayer
  •      Extend kindness
  •      Extend graciousness
  •      Be available
  •      Encourage spiritual growth
  •       Promote communication
  •      Seek counsel from Godly advisors and mentors; heed their counsel
  •      Passion and zeal for The Word
  •      Exemplify the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
 
Responsibilities
 
1.Leadership 
  •      Responsible for all regular worship services of the church, delegating to the worship  
            LEADERS and the planning and leading of those services 
  •      Seek God's discernment to receive and communicate HCC’s vision and direction  
2. Preach and Teach 
  •      Responsible to preach the word of God and model the Lordship of Christ to our congregation      in sound doctrine, conviction, and integrity and relevance so that growth may occur 

  •    Set all themes, topics, and any special events of the service; with all guest speakers scheduled        through him

  •     Under the authority of the elders, he shall have allotted time to do outside speaking
    and attend various functions that can use his gifts to enhance kingdom growth
  •     He shall be responsible for counseling and/or connecting people to relevant  
    resources
  •     Engage, relate, and encourage the youth to a stronger relationship with God
3. Set an Example
  •     Active in groups and events of the community as an ambassador for our congregation
  •     Committed to maintaining a schedule that provides for family time and rest, including  weekly          protected time and annual vacation periods

  •      Have a responsibility (along with elders) for visitation of those shut-ins both at home and in              medical institutions. When he cannot go, he should make sure someone can
  •      Be an example of and promote congregational stewardship and benevolence
  •      Evidence of a lifestyle of consistent spiritual and moral character of one following Christ as              outlined in 1 Tim 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4, and Acts 20:28 

Workweek Snapshot
 
The normal workweek may include morning and evening meetings, study time, visitation and weekend services. Posted office hours of availability will be required. One day a week and Saturday (unless otherwise needed to officiate a function) is to be set aside for rest. 
 
Compensation and Benefits
 
A package of salary (to be determined with qualification), healthcare and an expense account will be provided. Refer to the personnel manual for details. 
 
Vacation
 
HCC provides paid vacation to full-time staff. The vacation schedule is listed in the personnel manual. Requests for time away for education, public speaking, ministry, or mission trips will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
